Australian Policy Online (www.apo.org.au)
Writing and research projects

Please contact Lisa if you are interested in any of the following

Australian Policy Online is an open access online public policy research gateway managed at Swinburne University at the Institute for Social Research. The site is heavily used by a subscriber base of over 8000 readers including researchers, bureaucrats, NGOs, professionals and the media and is a unique resource for the dissemination of public policy in Australia.

Project 1 We invite media students interested in policy research in any of the following areas to write introductory pages listing key policy documents and a broad context for researchers to approach the APO topic areas. We anticipate each introductory page would be around 1000 words and would take the form of a wiki or another kind of evolving document that other researchers could edit as new policy is developed.  The APO topic areas are:

•    Ageing
•    Asia and the pacific
•    Citizenship and the law
•    Disability
•    Economics and trade
•    Education
•    Employment and workplace relations
•    Environment
•    Families and households
•    Foreign policy and defence
•    Gender and sexuality
•    Health
•    Housing
•    Immigration and refugees
•    Income, poverty and wealth
•    Indigenous issues
•    Media, communications and cultural policy
•    Politics and government
•    Population, multiculturalism and ethnicity
•    Religion and faith
•    Rural and regional
•    Science and technology
•    Social policy
•    Urban and regional planning
•    Youth

Project 2 A possible project for journalism students would be to propose, research and write articles for APO’s Comment and Analysis column.  Suitable high-standard opinion pieces would be published on APO subject to editorial consideration.

Creative Economy (www.creative.org.au)
Website research project

Creative Economy is a gateway to research and commentary on developments in national and international creative industries and their cultural and social impact. The site is hosted by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI) and managed at Swinburne University at the Institute for Social Research. The site draws on the resources of CCI, Australian Policy Online, and research reports and opinion pieces from industry groups, consultants and other Australian and international media and research organisations.

Currently we are looking to expand our sources of Australian content in the areas of:

•    Arts, Music, and Design
•    Broadcasting
•    Business Development
•    Cultural Institutions
•    Digital Media
•    Education
•    Games
•    Open Systems
•    Law and Policy
•    Print and Publishing
•    Screen Industries
•    Telecommunications
•    Workforce Skills and Training

The project would entail web based research into Australian media and arts organizations and adding these to our database.  It would also involve uploading suitable material to the Creative Economy website.

ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation – CCI     (www.cci.edu.au)
Website editing project

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation – CCI was established in July 2005 and involves researchers and collaborators from Queensland University of Technology, Swinburne University of Technology, Australasian CRC for Interaction Design, Australian Film Television and Radio School, Australian National University, Charles Darwin University, Edith Cowan University & University of Wollongong.
The Centre has an ambitious research agenda organised around three themes:
Creative Innovation: Content, IT, Design, BPM, Enterprise
Innovation Policy: Innovation Policy, Law, Economics
Creative Human Capital: Industry, Education, Workforce, Consumers
The CCI website was redesigned in 2008 and content is still being imported to the new site.  The work placement project would involve sourcing material from the old CCI website and from the individual repositories of the CCI researchers, converting it to a suitable format and uploading it to the new CCI site.  Training in using Drupal, the site’s content management system, would be one of the benefits of this placement.

Website Designer/Director

Applications Close: Friday, April 11, 2008
Employer/Organisation: Q & A with M & K
Location: Australia – Victoria – Melbourne
Salary: Volunteer

An exciting brand-new proposed TV show coming to Channel 31 is looking for a website designer/director. We are looking for a motivated, hard-working individual who has some spare time and would like the opportunity to work on this fantastic, new show.

Q & A with M & K is a panel discussion-talk show that explores lifestyle, relationship and other contemporary issues relevant to teenagers and young adults in a rapidly developing and increasingly isolating society. The hosts, Kirk Samuel Goodsell and Melanie Dimmitt, will introduce topics (via emails, letters and SMS’s sent in by young people), share personal stories and facilitate panel discussions with experts, personalities and young people. The show, reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, differs in the fact that the target is a younger audience and therefore employs entertaining elements including contemporary visual effects, interactive web-based components, vox pops, as well as hosting a variety of special guests.

We are extremely happy and encourage both professional IT workers AND students to apply. A large part of this show is a learning progress for everyone on board so we would love to have people who are happy to learn and help us take this show into a successful first season. Our crew is a mix of newcomers and professionals so all are welcome to apply.

We are a hard-working and dedicated team but our primary aim is to have fun. Meetings with all production crew are fortnightly (usually Monday evening in the city); however, availabilities are flexible. Then different departments meet more regularly (eg. the marketing department meet on a weekly basis).

Please contact Kirk Samuel Goodsell with your interest on qawithmk@gmail.com or 0439 929 085.
Hoping to fill these roles ASAP.

Many thanks in advance and we look forward to hearing from you.
All the best, The Team at M & K
